The origins of Halloween can be traced back to the times before Christ. In the Celtics mythology it was thought that with the coming of winter, thought of as the season of the dead, there was a night that spirits of the dead could roam around with humans. You could find some of those spirits with the ability to inflict suffering and violence upon man.
To make up to these spirits and the gods that they worshiped, the Celtic people would leave out their finest foods on the doorsteps as offerings. Their priests would even put out sacrifices, animals and humans, for asking the gods to bring back the sun and hope the gods would chase away the evil and the spirits. The Celtics people would even wear dreadful costumes, thinking that might scare away the spirits.
From this the origins of Halloween customs were brought to this country in the 1800′s originally by the Irish. Though some may not like it, I am sure you can find many a young person who can’t wait for Halloween to come around on the calendar. The chance to dress up in their given costume and to visit different residences to get some treats is a tradition we can all admire.
One of the hottest outfits this coming season will be the Avenger’s Super-hero characters. With the movies about Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor and Captain America kids and adults will all want to dress themselves up as one of those characters.
The Avengers were a team of superheroes who appeared in magazines and comics published by Marvel Comics. They made their debut in 1963 modeled somewhat after the super-hero trend for teams.
The original team consisted of Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor, Iron Man and the Hulk. Captain America was discovered by the team trapped in ice and joined the team when he was revived. They have been labeled “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.”
If you are asked to wear any costume portraying any member from the avengers, you don’t have to worry about not finding the right one because there are so many main members plus recruits to choose from.
